Community guidelines and rules

Share, support, learn

This is a community for sharing, supporting and learning. You will get the most out of this by participating and engaging with others in the group. Please therefore take time to share your experiences and views.

This, of course, puts you in a potentially vulnerable position and so we ask you to follow these guidelines for your security and that of the group:

Please DO

  • Become involved, contribute and comment with courage and authenticity, and help others to learn.
  • Keep your own contributions clear and genuine, posted in the spirit of helping others to learn and grow from your experiences, and not for self-promotion.
  • Read and react to the contributions of others with wisdom, empathy and compassion, and without sympathy, advice and criticism.
  • Only disagree and debate with fellow Members with respect and curiosity. Try to understand the other’s point of view without imposing your own agenda.
  • Be supportive and encouraging of other Members and remember they are resourceful and seek guidance and support to solve their own problems.
  • Ask for help when you need it.
  • Treat the comments and contributions of other Members as strictly personal and confidential.

Please do NOT under any circumstances:

  • Pretend that you are, or that you represent, someone else, or impersonate any other individual or entity.
  • Use this Community, its sites, groups or facilities for any abusive or illegal purpose.
  • Do anything that may harm others in any way.
  • Use this Community, its sites, groups or facilities to bully, threaten, cyber-stalk, intimidate, or harass fellow Members in any way.
  • Post content that contains pornography, excessive violence, or is otherwise offensive, vulgar, explicit, or obscene.
  • Post email addresses, telephone numbers, physical addresses or other personal information for yourself, any Member or third parties. (You may post personal social media handles, links to social media groups, and links to other social platforms).
  • Share outside the Community any information about any Member in a way that might lead to the identification of the Member and the release of otherwise confidential and personal information  about the Member into the public domain
  • Post comments that provide financial advice or counselling or coaching guidance. Comments should be supportive in nature, not therapeutic.
  • Use the comment boxes and internal messaging facilities:
    • to attempt to buy and/or sell any item or service, including but not limited to financial, counselling or coaching services
    • to post links to other retail sites that sell similar products
    • to post about or link to any type of promotions, sales, or other offers from any company that provides similar services or sells similar products as those offered by the Owner or any of its brands.

These community guidelines are written in accordance with Living Money’s manifesto which we encourage members to follow and they form part of the terms and conditions under which you become a member of Living Money. They should be followed in the course and Facebook group, as well as on this site.

We will take action (which may include exclusion from the group without any refund of fees in serious cases) against any member who does not abide by these guidelines. This is to ensure the security of the remaining members of the group.

We appreciate deeply your intention to comply with these guidelines and your determination to uphold high standards of trust and interaction both in and outside the community. Thank you.

The tutorial

There is a lot of information in the tutorial and you can watch parts of it again here, with controls available for a more leisurely experience and in conjunction with the workbook.

Tutorial, part 1

Information about us, about you and why we are here

Tutorial, part 2

A look at what we get wrong and how to fix it with FUTURE

The community and the course

You should find most of your questions answered in the membership brochure and the course brochure.

You’ll find more about the content of the course in our course programme.

The course is a journey of exploration and discovery and is therefore sequential. Module 1 will become available to you 22 days after you joined and after the end of your 21 day trial period. The five subsequent modules each become available 14 days after the start of the previous module.

Each topic in a module becomes available when you mark the previous topic as complete (click the ‘Mark complete‘ box at the end of each topic). Where topics include a video, you will be unable to mark the topic as complete until you have watched the video. We don’t want to be over-authoritarian here, so all videos have controls and you can slide straight to the end of the video if you really don’t want to watch it (although we hope you will)!

The course is iterative and flexible. We encourage you to circle back to previous modules and topics at any time to revisit and deepen your understanding in the light of later topics.

Sharing and contributing

Learning from other members, and sharing your own experiences, beliefs and resources with other members will ensure this community is strong and rewarding, so I encourage you to contribute to the community. The purpose of this email is to give you some guidance on how, where and when to contribute.

Security
Sharing your stories, especially the painful ones, can put you in a vulnerable position and we want to ensure that you are safe when you share. Its for this reason that we have established guidelines for the community (above).

Where and when to share
For published content on the membership site and the course please try to restrict your contribution to the subject matter. This will facilitate a focused discussion on the topic itself. If you want to contribute or share more generally, then please use the Facebook group.

How to share
You will find a comments box at the bottom of all posts, articles and lessons in the members site. You will see the name under which you are logged in and you will need to do an easy piece of maths to prove you are a human being and not a robot.

Simply type your comment and observation and click ‘Submit’. We have installed a special comments system on the site which enables you to receive notification of comments by email, and to respond to them by email without necessarily logging into the site. We hope this will make it easier to build and maintain conversations.

Please be aware, though, that to comply with legislation, you are NOT automatically subscribed to comments. If you wish to join the conversation then you will need to tick the ‘Join the conversation’ box before you submit your comment.

Once you receive three emails in any 14 hour period you will receive a single comment digest rather than individual notification emails.

We are assuming everyone knows how to post to Facebook…

Those emails

You probably remember getting a few emails from us when you enrolled. You’ll find copies here if you want to revisit them.

Online tutorial follow up email #2 - About Living Money…

Dear ,

Now that you have seen our tutorial I wonder, have you ever found yourself thinking:

  • ‘I’m feeling stressed and anxious because I don’t know where I am at the moment.’
  • ‘I’m not leading the lifestyle I always imagined I would.’
  • ‘I worry about what’s going on in the world.’
  • ‘My (or our) finances just don’t support my (or our) dreams.’
  • ‘I worry I am on the cusp of making a seriously bad decision.’
  • ‘I work hard for my money. Shame my money isn’t working hard for me.’
  • ‘If I’m realistic, I’m only one pay check away from disaster.’

During my life-long career in financial services my clients usually cited at least one of these as a reason for coming to see me. Although I hung up my calculator and financial services authorisation some 18 months ago I’ve been working since then on my project to combine financial planning and life coaching, putting me in an even better position to help you if you feel the same way.

Our mission is to help the world live wholeheartedly by day and sleep at night free from money worries. We believe that everyone should have unfettered, free access to the foundation level concepts, processes, philosophies and resources to make this happen, and you can find many of these here on the Living Money website.

To give you a flavour of what is on offer, you can download now and for free Smarter Investing: The Seven Mistakes to Avoid When Buying a Financial Product.

As you registered for our webinar, How to Sleep at Night and Thrive by Day by Mastering Your Life and Your Money we will be able to send you articles, ideas, tips and resources that I hope you will find useful.

And don’t forget to read my acclaimed book on personal finance, Right Money, Right Place, Right Time, available on Amazon in paperback and Kindle editions (a quick heads-up that if you join our community you can download the book as a pdf, for free).

And so you are absolutely clear on who we are, what we do, and how we treat your personal details, I’ll write to you shortly with more information on our privacy policy, corporate background and terms of business.

Don’t forget! Join the Living Money community before all 100 Founder Member places are filled to get your discounts.

Online tutorial follow up email #3 - For your privacy and protection…

Dear ,

Now that you have watched our online tutorial and connected with Living Money I just wanted to re-assure you about your security and privacy. I am very aware that becoming involved in a new online venture can raise questions in your mind on this count.

About Living Money
Some four years ago I established Project Sophia Ltd, a United Kingdom company registered at Companies House (number 08140820) to service and administer my various brands, including Living Money. The company is also registered for VAT (UK Sales Tax) number 259398448.

About Me
I was personally authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (and its predecessors) from 1990 to 2016 when I relinquished my authorisation and found good homes for my Planning for Life clients. During that time I became a fellow of the Institute of Financial Planning and served on its Board for six years. I am now a member of the International Coach Federation.

Your privacy
Thank you for subscribing to my mailing list when you registered for the tutorial. This is held and managed by Project Sophia.

You will receive emails from me under the Living Money banner and occasionally from me personally and I want to reiterate that we understand how important your privacy is to you and so:

  • We will not share your contact details with anyone else
  • We will be prudent in our communications with you, aiming always to present you with valuable ideas without overwhelming your inbox
  • We will always make it easy for you to unsubscribe (though we would be sorry to see you go).

See our full privacy statement and other legal and corporate information documents.

Our website and community
The Living Money community is for sharing, supporting and learning about your life and money. Again I want to reassure you that we take your security seriously. You will get the most out of the community by participating and engaging with others in the group and sharing your experiences and views.

I am aware this could put you in a potentially vulnerable position and so when you join we will ask you to follow these guidelines for your security and that of the group:

  • Your own contributions should be clear and genuine, posted in the spirit of helping others to learn and grow from your experiences, and not for self-promotion
  • Your reactions to the posts of others will be empathic and compassionate, without sympathy, advice and criticism
  • You are welcome to disagree and debate as long as you do so with respect and curiosity. Try to understand the other’s point of view without imposing your own agenda
  • Be supportive and encouraging of other members and remember they are resourceful and seek guidance and support to solve their own problems
  • In particular, help others to learn. Don’t give advice, especially therapeutic or financial advice (you are probably not qualified to do so anyway)

I really look forward to seeing you around in our courses and community in the coming months.

Don’t forget! Join the Living Money community before all 100 Founder Member places are filled to get your 30% discounts.

New member email #1 - Welcome and familiarisation

Dear ,

May I first of all extend a warm welcome to you as a Founder Member of the Living Money community and I hope that your journey from here is rewarding and fruitful.

This email is confirmation of your order for membership of Living Money. You now have access to the Living Money community, the Master your Money, Master your Life online course and the private Facebook Group and I would like to say a little about each.

The community
The community website can be reached at https://members.living-money.com. You will need the user name and password that you created when you joined to log into the site.

When you log in you will be taken straight to your Dashboard, from where you can access community content, the course, Facebook group and (in due course) the app.

Important: please read the Community Guidelines (which can be found in your Dashboard) as soon as you log in for the first time.

The course
The course is also accessed from your Dashboard. You can see your progress through the course in the sidebar when you are in the course. Please take time to explore the introductory module during your 21 day free trial. You will start the course proper with Module 1 – Foundation after the trial.

The Facebook Group
The Facebook Group is a secret group, so only your fellow members will know you are a member. I have taken this route because I respect your privacy and wanted to provide the security you need to contribute your stories, thoughts and feelings to the group. Please be aware that the Community Guidelines also apply to the Facebook Group.

To join the group, please go to https://www.facebook.com/groups/livingmoney/ and click the ‘Join’ button. We will aim to approve your request as soon as possible. However, please bear in mind that approval may take a little longer, especially at weekends.

I’ll be writing again shortly to tell you about how best to contribute to the group. In the meantime, please start to explore Living Money and if you have any questions please email me and my support team at [email protected]

New member email #2 - Contributing and sharing

Dear ,

Learning from other members, and sharing your own experiences, beliefs and resources with other members will ensure this community is strong and rewarding, so I encourage you to contribute to the community. The purpose of this email is to give you some guidance on how, where and when to contribute.

Security
Sharing your stories, especially the painful ones, can put you in a vulnerable position and I want to ensure that you are safe when you share. Its for this reason that I have published guidelines for the community, which I repeat here:

  • Don’t use the commenting and sharing facilities to air issues about the community, its administration or the technology. If you have issues please get in touch with our support team at [email protected] and we will do our best to resolve them.

Where and when to share
For published content on the membership site and the courser please try to restrict your contribution to the subject matter.

New member email #3 - Trial period

Dear ,

I want to reconfirm that new members of the Living Money community have a guaranteed, risk free, no fee trial period:

  • if you took out a monthly subscription you will not be charged until the end of your 21-day free trial and you can withdraw before then without charge
  • if you elected to pay up-front I guarantee a return of your first subscription if you ask to cancel within 30 days of placing your order

I therefore encourage you to make the most of this guarantee by exploring the Living Money community as much as you can, for free.

Community content
You will find the monthly posts for September to December on the website (January will be posted shortly). You will find material covering wealth, financial planning, self-knowledge and your relationship with money.

Up and coming topics are the journey (January), clearing the decks (February) and shame around money (April).

Feel free to read, comment and discuss with fellow members.

The course
You now have full access to Module 0 (Exploration) of the Master your Money, Master your Life course. This module gives you an outstanding opportunity to start exploring your own life and money, something which will be revealing and will bring you some peace of mind (our fears and unease are often caused by ignorance of our own situation).

There is material about me and Living Money, including an opportunity to revisit the tutorial at leisure, and about the course itself, followed by a topic on your options.

You will begin the course proper with Module 1 (Foundation), a much deeper exploration of your life and money, on completion of your trial period.

Facebook Group
And don’t forget the Facebook Group, where you can introduce yourself to your fellow members and make some initial comments on your own reasons for joining Living Money.

Next steps
I believe the Living Money community can be a real force for beneficial change, not only for you as an individual, but for your partner, your family, your business and the wider community. I hope you will be excited and enthused by the programme and become fully involved.

However, I appreciate that you may not feel it is what you really want and if that is the case I will honour my guarantee to cancel your monthly subscription or refund your annual payment and remove you from the membership if you email me with your instruction (no reason required) at [email protected].
